Hello everyone! I'm Gaeun Choi and I'm going to talk about World Water Monitoring Day. Water is an integral part of life. Because it keeps our most basic lives. So I, who is interested in human rights, chose World Water Monitoring Day to find out a special day related to "water," the most important source of helping us live a life of human being. World Water Monitoring Day was created by America’s Clean Water Foundation in 2003 to build awareness about protecting water resources and to encourage people to test the quality of local bodies of water. This is to build public awareness and participation in the protection of water resources around the world by allowing citizens to carry out basic monitoring of local waters. It will increase people's awareness of the importance of resources and the improvement of quality of life. It will lead to an improvement in social awareness and fundamental development of society. As of 2018, EarthEcho International encourages participants to conduct their monitoring activities as part of the "EarthEcho Water Challenge" during any period between March 22 (World Water Day ) and December of each year. So why don't you take an interest in this activity? #loveourplanetchallenge #worldwatermonitoringday #CFLHS #심화영어

Happy World Water Monitoring Day! Because we are all fluid beings that need clean water to live, we care about the quality and sustainability of our H2O resources. 💧 This day was established in 2003 as an education outreach program to encourage the population to analyze and protect our local water bodies. The indicators that are tested are dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity and temperature. Look for the actions happening in your area and volunteer to take samples and rise awareness. Join @earthecho on their mission! 🌍 In Spain, Instituto Superior del Medio Ambiente has training regarding this matter. And in Romania, there are initiatives by SC APA CANAL 2000 SA Pitesti or Compania de Apa Arad SA. Tomorrow is World Water Monitoring Day, so for our #ThrowbackThursday , we're reflecting on our decade-long volunteer-based water quality monitoring program. From 2008 to 2018, we ran California’s largest volunteer freshwater monitoring program, which trained more than 1,500 citizen scientists to monitor the health of the county’s rivers and streams, and created a community of informed individuals empowered with first-hand knowledge and hands-on experience to advocate for our most overlooked waterways. We are so grateful to the volunteers who showed up month after month, year after year. If you volunteered at one of our monitoring events, what is your favorite memory? #worlwatermonitoringday #volunteerwaterqualitymonitoring #citizenscience

Our Project Coordinator, Keely inspects a Rainwater Harvesting Tank in Southwest Kenya 🇰🇪. "I am looking for key structural elements to be in place to ensure the long-term sustainability of the tanks. I am also asking the beneficiaries specific questions about their sanitation and hygiene behaviours to evaluate our WASH training facilitation. We annually monitor and evaluate our Water projects and WASH programs to identify any gaps in the project work, to evaluate how well the community is prepared to manage and maintain their water source, and to ensure our communities are receiving the proper training required to be healthy, prosperous, and self-sustainable." #WorldWaterMonitoringDay empowers citizens to carry out basic monitoring of their local water bodies.

Hello everyone and happy World Water Monitoring Day! We’ve been talking an awful lot about zooplankton lately and an important question to ask ourselves at this juncture is ‘why all the fanfare about a bunch of tiny marine critters?’ Although tiny in stature, zooplankton are an important link between #photosynthesizers that can harness and store the sun’s #energy and the successively larger #animals that receive this energy through grazing and predation. Photosynthetic organisms like #diatoms are called ‘primary producers’ and form the base of the marine food chain; herbivorous zooplankton are the next step and are called ‘primary consumers’ since they are among the first to gain this stored energy through grazing on the diatoms. Check out all the tiny animals and diatoms contained in this little drop! This droplet was taken from a net tow which has concentrated all these tiny organisms into a small volume. Each step after ‘primary consumer’ is termed in kind: #fish eating the zooplankton are ‘secondary consumers’, #seals eating the fish are ‘tertiary consumers’, and so on.  Each step in a food chain is called a ‘trophic level’ and each step up receives a successively smaller fraction of the energy from the base level. This is a VERY simplified explanation of these trophic relationships – in reality, a food chain like this is a small part of a larger, complex structure called a ‘food web’ which accounts for all the different trophic relationships among organisms in an #ecosystem . These webs can become quite complex as many animals consume multiple kinds of prey. Zooplankton are vital primary consumers that are a critical link in the complex system that is the #marine food web. The study of these tiny critters is critical to understanding the complex workings of the enormous and intricate ecosystem that is #PugetSound . Better understanding of these relationships and monitoring for changes in these communities can help inform decisions on how best to manage our precious resources for both humans and wildlife alike.
