Sleep is magical and I find it weird that people brag about how little sleep they get and about how much coffee/energy drinks they drink throughout the day 🤷 --- People will say they workout and eat "right" but aren't seeing progress...... But they also sleep 4 hours a night and consume a lot of alcohol on the weekends 🤷 --- Sleep is going to be a key factor in progress and recovery --- Don't mask your tiredness with caffeine and stimulants. Posted @withregram@dr .joelseedman_ahp If you want to blast your abductors & adductors through a ROM with both eccentric & concentric contractions while simultaneously reinforcing alignment, full body tension & core activation, look no further than these planking & bridging abduction & adduction drills. Huge shoutout to my client & NPC figure competitor @lpetchlee1 for coming up with all of these ingenious variations she’s showing. Give here a follow for more amazing exercises. To perform these simply use any roller, slide-board, slider, or disc such as the @_flexnow which is my go-to tool for these (use code DRJOEL for discount ), then connect a cable/band either to the device or to your ankle via straps or use a mini band for bilateral abduction. Once positioned you can perform any plank, bear crawl, glute bridge, or pushup (straight or bent leg ) with abduction & adduction. These can also be performed on slick hardwood floor with socks & a small exercise band. Although the double leg variations are very effective & mimic abduction & adduction machines, the single leg planking variations offer 3 unique benefits. First, the single leg variations allow a greater range of motion in both the contracted & stretched positions ultimately providing greater mobility benefits. Secondly, the offset forces blast the core & abdominals particularly throughout the transverse abs & obliques via anti-rotation & anti-lateral flexion forces that are acting on the lifter’s torso & spine he or she must resist. Lastly, because you’ll be holding a single leg plank & all of your weight on the support leg not only will quads & hip flexors of that leg be crushed, you’ll also be using the abductors & adductors of that same leg isometrically to resist rotation in whichever direction the cable is pulling. 18 weeks of the Badass Lady Gang’s Summer Series. We laughed, we cried, we cheered each other’s victories, and commiserated on setbacks, and especially cheered when we learned to listen to our bodies and do what they wanted. We were all strong AF. We learned A LOT. I got to run a little, and then walk A LOT. Today, I finished it out with a seven-mile walk, where I whittled down my pace from a 13:30 to a 12:21 in my 5th mile and 12:37 in the final mile. Most importantly though, I learned to ask myself “is this your personal best TODAY?” and then show up with that. Even better, I made some fantastic friends who helped to get me through this crazy pandemic time. Today is day 365 until the Berlin marathon, and now I start to take all these lessons about strength, seeing what I’m capable of, what my best is TODAY, and take them into building for my best marathon next year. I can’t wait. fall running weather finally arrived and I’m here for it 🍂 • started this morning with a 5k for a great cause! this morning I ran the @btownhoc for my Grammy Susie who passed away almost 15 years ago due to transitional cell carcinoma. While I was completely out of breath at the end, I was reminded that even though I didn’t run my absolute fastest time, I should be so grateful for the ability to exercise and move my body. 5 miles to finish off the week 👊 the miles didn’t feel easy and then I realized I’ve worked out 7 days in a row so go figure. Probably the closest I’ll ever get to being a streaker. All you #runstreakers are amazing! Gladly taking a rest day tomorrow. . . I recently watched Weight of Gold - a doc on the mental health struggles of Olympic athletes. Have any of you seen it? It brought up quite a few points that have kept me thinking. Doesn’t matter who you are, it’s okay to not be okay. I definitely missed watching the Olympics this summer, but now considering all sides and the pressure the athletes have as they continue to work toward that dream next summer 💙 . .
