I bet you weren't expecting a history lesson from your local art gallery...but hey, we like to switch things up occasionally! Our friends over at @charactercoffee shared a great video about the original plan for the Thruway and the impact it would have on Utica and Rome. The video is full of historical footage, so we figured we would share a snapshot of our block from the past! Many of our gallery visitors quickly remind us of the businesses that have occupied our space over the years, from candy shops to clothing stores! It is incredible to hear stories of all the good times that have been had downtown. Our gallery space is part of the Capitol Arts Complex, which now spans multiple buildings. We are privileged to have fellow tenants who teach music, dance, acting and so much more! The theatre has been a keystone of downtown since its creation and we are extremely excited to have the marquee sign rebuilt and installed in the spring. The plan is for it to look nearly identical to the one pictured above. We take pride in Rome's rich history and plan to be a large part of its future! If you'd like to watch the full video, head over to YouTube and search for “The Thruway and Utica-Rome Tomorrow!, 1951”. Did you ever visit 216 W Dominick St. before it was The Copper Easel?! #thecoppereasel #cnyhistory #upstatehistory #downtownrome #romeny #cityofrome #nysthruway #capitoltheatre #history

Away from the city’s tourist hotspots and hidden away down a narrow street on the edge of the Jewish Quarter sits Chapter Roma. The 42 rooms and suites are housed in a building that dates back to 1800; and the building is listed within the City of Rome. So many of its architectural features still stand. Bring your comfiest walking shoes as walking is one of the best ways to see the city. The Spanish Steps are 20 minutes to the north and the River Tiber is moments away. After a day of spectacular sightseeing, relax with a negroni on one of the sumptuous velvet sofas in the lobby bar, admiring the art work of some of the city’s best street artists. With thousands of other destinations to visit and to find the perfect one for you, download our free Vacay Weather app - You'll find the link in the bio. #rome #citybreak #halfterm #walking #vacation #spanishsteps #rivertiber #negroni #relax #chapterroma #jewishquarter #cityofrome #hiddenstreets #designhotels #romanholiday #sightseeing #italy #visititaly #italytrip #italytravel #spanishstepsrome #exploringitaly #visitrome #piazzaspagna #vatican #colloseum #ancientrome #roma #sightseeing #vacation Images @chapterroma

Dear future self, If you have the chance to travel to Italy again, pack nicer clothes. Upscale your outfits. Don't get pictures in front of such beautiful things while wearing t-shirts. You'll thank me later... Oh and eat more of everything. That's all ❤ . Have you ever traveled anywhere and regretted your packing decisions? . I have and I probably will again. But hey, I'll have this note to remind myself 😂 . #italy #italytravel #travelitaly #trevifountain #rome #romeitaly #roma #italia #visitrome #wheninrome #dearself #dearfutureself #traveladvice #packingadvice #traveltip #travelfashion #italianfood #travelblog #travelblogger #blogger #blogging #packingtip #cityofrome #europa #traveleurope #europeantravel #europe

Życzę Ci szczęśliwego weekendu, pomimo przeciwności losu i brzydkiej pogody 🤣 . Co ostatnio sprawiło, że poczułeś szczęście? . #spelniammarzenia #marzeniadospełnienia #wpogonizamarzeniami #biegiempomarzenia #idreambig #mylittledream #neverstopdreaming#dreamoflife #placeofyourdreams #dreamjourney #dreamreality #inspiracjadodziałania #podróżniczka #itravels #travellingwomen #collosseo #koloseum #rometheeternalcity #cityofrome #romeitalia #kochamwłochy #szczęśliwakobieta #szczesciejestproste #proudwomanofcolor #siłajestkobietą #podróżepoeuropie #wycieczkakrajoznawcza #żyjzcałychsił #żyjbardziej #visitrome_

Buongiorno viaggiatori!☀️ Wouldn't you love to discover all the places in Rome? Everyone corner, every arch. Every statue, every cobblestone. Don't you agree that you could spend a lifetime in the eternal city and still would need more time to discover it all? 💁🏻‍♀️ • How're you my friends? How was your weekend? I, for the first time in months, went to sit down on a terrace with a glass of wine. I loved it. Everyone was calm and it felt like normal again. Tell me what you've been up to! Stay connected. 💕 __________________________ #rome #cityofrome #arcodigiano #ig_rome #ig_lazio #lazio #ig_italia #traveltoitaly #italy_vacation #italytour #travelling_europe #europe_perfection #yallerseurope #europe_tourist #travel_blogger #travel_blog #igersitalia #igersroma #italia_bestphoto #italyiloveyou #lestradediroma #cittàeterna #italiait #wheninrome #italyblog #italyblogger #discoverunder2k #italytravel #charmingitaly #italydestinations

“What next?” I’ve been asking myself this for the last couple of days. Not regarding what’s next in life, but what next with my content. We’re changing from summer to autumn, and I want to take advantage of that and change my feed up a little. I would like to use the autumn colours, especially as travel isn’t something we can do at the moment. Do you guys have any photo theme suggestions? #rome #italytravel #trevifountain #cityofrome #travelbloggers #travelblogging #bloggersofinstagram #tblogger #thattravelblog #bloggerlife #bloggerslife #bloglife #travellifestyle #travelpreneur #locationindependent #workhardanywhere #lifestyledesign #responsibletravel #seekmoments #travelgirl #travelcouple #wanderlust #adventureseeker #doyoutravel #travelmore #goexplore #wonderfulplaces #openmyworld #lovetotravel #theinfluencerbootcamp

No filter needed for the beauty that is Rome... Living in this city where nothing ever goes as expected, I sometimes complain about the lack of a functioning public transport system, roads that are safe to drive on and don’t have holes the size of a house in them, and proper garbage and waste management services so you can actually walk the streets and breathe through your nose. In my lifetime, I probably won’t see these problems managed the way I would like them to be and are used to, coming from a country where structure and efficiency are among the most important values. But Rome has a way of making you forget about all those things when you walk through its historical city centre at sundown and see these kind of sights. I probably won’t ever feel completely at home in this crazy, chaotic and beautiful city and that’s ok. I’m planning to enjoy it as much as I can anyway. #rome #romeitaly #rome 🇮🇹 #cityofrome #romacapitale #romacaputmundi #igersofrome #igersofitaly #streetphotography #cityphotography #skylinephotography #freelancelife #livinginitaly #sonyalphasclub #sonyalpha7 #rawitaly

The Roman Forum, Rome , Italy -known as Forum Romanum in Latin, was a site situated at the focal point of the antiquated city of Rome and the area of significant strict, political and social exercises. History accept individuals initially started freely meeting in the outside Forum around 500 B.C., when the Roman Republic was established. The rectangular-formed territory, sited on low-lying land between Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill, was home to a considerable lot of the old city's most amazing sanctuaries and landmarks. The Temple of Caesar, built after the politician’s assassination on the steps of the Theatre of Pompey, is sometimes referred to as the site of Caesar’s grave, but is actually the spot where he was cremated in 44 BC. Now, the temple is in ruins but people still leave flowers and tributes behind in honour of Rome’s most famous citizen. #italy 🇮🇹 #rome 🇮🇹 #romanforum #cityofrome #juliusceaser #palatinehill #capitolinehill #assassination #europe #europetravel #eurotrip #italy_illife #history #memories #blissfulwandering
