In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989 ) 'In which Annie gives it those ones' is an Indian made English language feature film screened on Doordarshan depicting the story of students of National Institute of architecture and planning who are preparing for their  final year exams. With screenplay penned by Arundhati Roy and coarse direction of Pradip Krishnen, this film has unmistakably set a benchmark for content and quality for Indian movies. Though this film has received two national awards back in the day, it still remains one of the most underwatched movie in India. It has acquired a 'Cult status' propagated by the urban and liberal thinking. Arundhati Roy has  taken us through her memories in which she recalls her life in School of architecture and planning, Delhi. A treat to eyes and ears (You will come across good number of BEATLES songs ), this movie will class up your taste in cinema. And yes, you may catch a glimpse of super star Shah Rukh Khan and the phenomenal Manoj Bajpayee (back when they were strugglers in delhi ) for a few minutes. God Of Small Things - Arundhati Roy “And the air was full of Thoughts and Things to Say. But at times like these, only the Small Things are ever said. Big Things lurk unsaid inside.” This is a story of twins Esthappen and Rahel and their childhood in the state of Kerala as they try to understand and come to terms with their fractured family and as they learn to their eternal sorrow that the events of one day can change things forever. In their innocent days they fashion a childhood in the shade of the wreck that is their family: their lonely, lovely mother, their beloved Uncle Chacko, and their sworn enemy, Baby Kochamma. I believe it's a little overrated novel. The timeline was disjointed, often skipping ahead followed by flashbacks, so I felt less connected and disgruntled most of the time. I love the beautiful language and the elegant metaphors that the author has used. The theme she has picked is very thoughtful. It's not a bad book - far from it. The start was quite intriguing but the overall plot did not meet my expectations. The lengthy description of every tiniest detail, particularly of nature, repeated many times made me lose my grip. Less of such description and more development of whole characters would have been appreciated. The characters she has created are really wonderful, and she has succeeded in evoking all the noises and sights and smells of Kerala. . . . . . . #bookquotes #bookclub #paperpack #bookstagram #readingtime #bookshelves #bookster #booklovers #kindle #classic #historicalfiction #nonfiction #tragedy #thriller #loveforbooks #hardcover #instabooks #novels #story #bookaddict #bibliophile #bookaholic #author #bookclub #literature #reader #bookphotography #bookcommunity #goofsmallthings #arundhatiroy

Book Review! Book: The God of Small Things Author: Arundhati Roy This novel (1997 Booker Prize ) is woven around the lives of Rahel and Estha, two unidentical twins in Ayemenem. The story continuously shifts back and forth between 1969 and 1993 when the twins were 7 and 31 years old respectively. The story touches sensitive aspects of their lives nostalgically, while faceting politics, misogyny, child abuse, casteism, social discrimination, love and hatred. The book is outright as a whole with an emotional rollercoaster of hope and despair. . . This is my personal favourite. 'It is becoming more and more difficult to communicate the scale of the crisis even to ourselves - it's size and changing shape, it's depth and diversity. An accurate description runs the risk of sounding like hyperbole. And so, for the sale of credibility and good manners, we groom the creature that has sunk it's teeth into us - we comb out its hair and wipe it's dripping jaw to make it more personable in polite company. India isn't by any means the worst, or most dangerous, place in the world, atleast not yet, but perhaps the divergence between what it could have been and what it has become makes it the most tragic.' #readersofinstagram #readersinquarantine @arundhati433 . . . . . . . . . . #arundhatiroy #azadi #freedomfascismfiction #hinduhindihindustan #indiamycountry #littlethingsbigdifference #bookstagram #flashesofdelight #bookworm #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #bookstagram #readersofinsta #craziesofinstagram #forahappymoment #livethelittlethings #feelfreefeed #thatauthenticfeeling #theslowdowncollective #posttheordinary #reclaimthehappy #chasinglight

🌾𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐊 – 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐎𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒🐝⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🏵Can love blossom in a pond of loss? Can truth conquer a palace of illusions? Can justice be a living-breathing reality in a kingdom of love laws? Can an extremely experimental novel be loved by all? ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🦂The answer is: 𝐍𝐎⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🌻Generation after generation silence is practised by a Syrian Christian family living in Ayemenem. When a new loss mounts over the old ones, the silence gets a voice, but a wrong one. And a blame game is played, calculative enough to destroy the present and poisonous enough to pollute the future. The era of innocence ends, the saga of experience begins. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🐚A small word or dispute can have a large impact, this idea is ornamented with appropriate metaphors and enthralling parallels. The novel is visually alive with a pulsation of its own. Here 'stream of consciousness' meets surrealistic reveries. And together it gives birth to an unprecedented experience in Indian English literature. The non-linear narrative peels off one shred of tragedy at a time so that the readers are invested in the novel until the end.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Gen 1. Pappachi, Mammachi, Baby Kochamma.⁣⁣⁣ Gen 2. Ammu, Baba, Velutha, Chacko.⁣⁣⁣ Gen 3. Estha, Rahel, Sophie.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🌸The individual identity and the history of these characters enhance the multiple viewpoints of the novel. The communist uprising metamorphoses into cravings of concealed desires. Physical abuse and ingrained racism are used here as tools of mental segregation. The fictitious escapism of the twins is the philosophical truth of the novel, ignored by all and lived by them.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🐞Few days back while reviewing Melville’s '𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐜𝐤' I said ‘an experimental revenge saga gone wickedly wrong’. '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬' is the exact opposite of that, an experimental amalgamation of dreams, deceits and dilemma that transforms into an epic tragedy of time.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🌺P.S – Don’t binge read the book. Go slow and let the experience take control over you.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🕊Like, Share and Comment.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ #thegodofsmallthings #arundhatiroy #indianliterature #indianbooks #kerala #godsowncountry #malayalam

Self portrait and post by @sjsacademy founder, Sara Trail. Arundhaiti Roy once said, “There’s no such thing as the voiceless — only the ‘deliberately silenced’ or the ‘preferably unheard.” The system isn’t broken it was built this way — and a cop who shot a black woman was only charged for the shots he missed. I’m pissed. But we have got to do more than just be angry. More work. More votes. More action. ✊🏾 With this, I ask: where have you been using your voice lately? হঠাৎ দেখা( hotat dekha )/The accidental meeting An intricate poem about the feelings that separation from the beloved sustains within us, and how unexpected reunions rekindle old emotions and questions whose answers only lead to more. In Hathat Dekha, Rabindranath Tagore narrates one such reunion – a chance encounter between former lovers on a train. This was lent a life of its own by Soumitra Chatterjee in the movie Praktan. His voice along with Tagore's rich imagery drapped in the ache of a 'Kalo reshomer kapor' and unrequited love. . . . . I would really suggest hearing this in the voice of Soumitra Chatterjee. I'll leave the link in my bio. . . . . . #darkacademia #aesthetics #indiandarkacademia #love #poetry #literature #newtoinstagram #write #quotes #rabindranathtagore #dusky #immortalityofsoul #flowers #bookstagram #books #jewellery #chaoticacademia #tagore #indianliterature #premchand #arundhatiroy #amitavghosh #followforfollowback #khalilgibran #kadambari #indianacademia #gitobitan #soumitrachatterjee #praktan #bengaliacademia

// If forever was true// I don't watch the movies that end up incomplete butchering my dedicated heart to pieces and I can't help but think about us, us is me and you, cute little lovebirds on their way to create soft memories . If I had control on life I would have booked you for a lifetime and after that, I would have entwined our destinies so strong even end would grieve before separating us but here I am scared but happy because you are there beside me and I swear it takes courage to love someone knowing that someday you will be physically away. But I'll love you till my memories can sing your rhythm and I won't fear ,I hope, when I see the lovers in their drifting form. - Annapurna . P.s - Feels good to turn emotions into poetry. I found this poem in my notes, so here it is on my feed today ! . This poem is dedicated to those who fear they might lose their partners, although it's a bitter truth hard to be accepted but all we can do is cherish every moment keeping aside our ego, anger , negative emotion and nourish it with loads of love and care ! 💁 💐 @tulincnbk 💐 , #küçükşeylerintanrısı , #arundhatiroy , #manbookerödülü , #canyayınları , #okudumbitti , #kitaponerisi , #kitaptavsiyesi , #okumakgüzeldir , #okumakhayattır , #kitap , #kitapkurdu , #kitapkahve , #kitapkokusu , #kitapsever , #kitapkolik , #kitapaşkı 📖 "Aslında her şeyin aşk yasaları'nın yapıldığı günlerde başladığı söylenebilir. HER anxiety:- When nervousness becomes a congregation to a woman, which visits her more often, then that leads to anxiety. Her feelings becomes confused and uneasy during stressful emotional and physical challenges. The anxiety of a woman ought to be respected, because she no longer cares about her looks even though she make use of Western instruments to make herself look good. Heart beating fast, intrusive thinking Yet there is a evidence of it's occurrence on her face. ARUNDHATI ROY 'AZADI' FREEDOM.FASCISM.FICTION QOTD: WHAT'S AZADI ? FOR ME IT'S A SENSE OF FEELING,AN EMOTION WHERE I'M FREE TO EXPRESS ANYTHING/ANYWHERE WHAT I FEEL WITHOUT ANY DOUBT OR FEAR. It's a battle of those who know how to think against those who know how to hate. ~Arundhati Roy She described the present political and social scenario in a series of electrifying essays, such as:Our Captured,Wounded Hearts, The language of literature, The graveyard talks back, The silence is the loudest sound, and most popular THE PANDEMIC IS A PORTAL. She challenges us to reflect on the meaning of freedom in a world of growing authoritarianism. It's about people, pandemic, pain, violence, hatred, facism. How caste and extremism destroying the basic foundation of our nation, How NRC,NPR, article 370 (Kashmir ) effects the soul of the Indian Constitution & preamble (liberty, equality, fraternity, secular and socialist )basically this book addressed most of the serious and sensitive problems millions of people across the globe are facing in their lives. She Beautifully described how minorities are facing identity crisis as she mention a line from Rehna Sultana poem called 'Mother' MOTHER, I'M SO TIRED,TIRED OF INTRODUCING MYSELF TO YOU. "Only fiction can try to discribe the transactions that take place in such a climate. Because the story of Kashmir isn't only a story about war and torture and rigged elections and human rights violations. It's a story about love and poetry, too. It cannot be flattened into news." Must read for those who're interested to know what's actually happening around them. I think you may hate her or love her but you just simply cannot ignore her.😊 🌼🌼 btw this one's my 50th post,How time flies 😀 . . . . . . . . . . #booksandessays #penguinindia #soendurepatiently #igbooks #novel #booksbooksbooks #fiction #booksandessays #booksarelife #fascism #azadi #bookstagramindia #arundhatiroy #arundhatiroyazadi

“Once you have fallen off the edge like all of us have… you will never stop falling. And as you fall you will hold on to other falling people. The sooner you understand that the better. This place where we live, where we have made our home, is the place of falling people. Here there is no haqeeqat. Arre, even we aren’t real. We don’t really exist.” The Ministry of Utmost Happiness is a little bit alive. I can almost imagine, glancing away, that it is stretching itself. Can almost hear the rustle of pages expanding, breathing in the morning. It has a presence, and a history, and a touch of magic, like any living creature. Really, it’s a book. But it feels like a friend. Split across characters and places, it’s the story of people trying very hard to live the things they feel inside of themselves in circumstances that rope them in. People compressed, made smaller, and then finding their own sort of freedom. There are so many stories in this story but they all turn on each other, push against the boundaries of the world, twist around heartbreak and hatred and suffering and find a way to hope. If you’re currently need of a little bit of hope, if you’re feeling lonely or not quite enough, let me introduce you to these pages. I think they’ll be alive for you, too. 🧡 How was your weekend? What did you read?
