Just because meetings, workshops and talks have moved online, doesn't mean they're less daunting. Maybe you find them even more nerve-wracking than in person meetings and that's understandable for many reasons: 1. People are looking directly at your face. 2. You might still have to introduce yourself, share your opinion. 3. You might find yourself in a breakout room with people you don't know. 4. It's hard to tell when someone is about to speak and you're worried you might interrupt someone and feel embarrassed, or be interrupted and feel humiliated after being publicly ignored (my biggest challenge with it! ) 5. You might feel embarrassed that your background isn't a snazzy home office but somewhere you've had to make-do all of a sudden. Each of these things requires you to be vulnerable and that's hard. Presenting yourself to others, in no matter which format, can leave you feeling exposed to judgement. This is normal. This is OK. You are both normal and OK! And we can get stuck what-iffing. But come back to what you know to be true in this very moment. That is certain. That builds a little island of stability in this ocean of uncertainty. I’ve been prescribed Sertraline and I am so RELIEVED! That’s the only word that I can use to describe it. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, I’ve never been brave enough for be honest with the doctors before. The doctor said it would probably make me feel a bit sick at first but that’s okay (watch me complain about it next week! ). 2020 has been a strange, unnerving, crazy whirlwind and I cannot believe that we are in September already! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some of 2020 has been a bit of a blur and I don't know about you but I think that all the emotions, the changes to our 'normal' life, the concerns about the future has taken its toll on people. I see it in my work and in my private life; people are a lot more on edge, more stressed, feel more overwhelmed and are suffering more from mental health issues. And I think that is completely normal under the circumstances. So if you feel like this don't think there is anything wrong with you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am always very conscious about managing my own mental health because I cannot help people when I am not in a good place, but I am looking after my mental health even more now. I am human and I feel the same stresses as everyone else. One of the things I do when I feel overwhelmed is to write down my thoughts and if I need to take action on particular things I write them down as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pouring everything out of my head onto paper gives me clarity and everything literally leaves my mind so I can have some peace of mind. As I go into this next chapter in business and in life, I feel like nothing can or will stop me. Not in the fall, not with the end of 2020, definitely not with our new wellness line. 💚 Not the naysayers. Not the fear. Not the distractions. And certainly not any of the curveballs that 2020 keeps throwing my way. I am ready for it all. Here’s the thing, if I listen to the naysayers and everything they put in my ear I would be living like “would of, should of, could of.” I would be paralyzed by fear. But the truth is, the only way to lose is to quit. Do it scared. Do it without knowing everything. Do it before the timing is perfect. Do it even when you don’t think you can. Anxiety Attack vs. Panic Attack ⬇️ A panic attack is an intense and sudden feeling of fear, terror, or discomfort accompanied by several other mental and physical symptoms. The symptoms of panic attacks are often so extreme that they cause severe disruption. According to the DSM-5, a panic attack is characterized by four or more of the following symptoms: Feelings of unreality (derealization ), Feeling detached from oneself (depersonalization ), Fear of losing control or going crazy, Fear of dying (mental symptoms ) and Heart palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate, Excessive sweating, Trembling or shaking, Sensations of shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, Feeling of choking, Chest pain, Nausea or abdominal distress, Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint, Numbness or tingling sensations (paresthesias ), Chills, Hot flashes (physical symptoms ). In contrast, anxiety generally intensifies over a period of time and is highly correlated with excessive worry about some potential danger—whether real or perceived.3 If the anticipation of something builds up and the high amount of stress reaches a level where it becomes overwhelming, it may feel like an "attack."
